The American Corner, Banjul today held a Leadership Cafe’ with officials from the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs, on the theme “Understanding The National Development Plan”
In his opening remarks, Mr. Ousman Touray, the centre Coordinator welcomed the participants and advise them to take the chance to effectively engage the officials for an in-depth understanding of the NDP.
Ms. Marie Bah, a Senior Planner under the Directorate of Planning at the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs gave a detailed history of the development plans of The Gambia from 1964, and zeroed her discussion on the NDP 2018 – 2021, highlighting the Eight Strategic Objectives as well as the Seven Critical Enablers meant to be benchmarks to keep track of the progresses made in the implementation of the objectives of the NDP.
On his part, Mr. Richard Gomez highlighted the gains made under the strategic objectives such as reduction in inflation rate, number of budget supports, as well as recently launched projects such as the Rice Value Chain Development and the Small Ruminants Projects under the Ministry of Agriculture.
The Director, Directorate of Planning at the Ministry Mr. Alagie Fadera outlined the role played by his Ministry to ensure that enough sensitization was done at the grassroots in coming up with the NDP. Mr. Fadera who adequately responded to several questions raised during the discussions, also dilated on the relationship between his Ministry and institutions such as the GBoS in addressing the challenges related to inadequate statistical capacities to report data as the implementation of the NDP progresses.
Various speakers at the event included Yusupha Mboob, Jasong Sanyang and Modou Lamin Ceesay, all graduates of the University of The Gambia. Mr. Modou Mboob of the American Corner chaired the discourse.
